Dosage calculation questions on the NCLEX-RN are mostly fill-in-the-blank: no multiple choice to lean on, no partial credit. You type a number, and it is either right or wrong. Critical-care drips (mcg/kg/min) look intimidating but are just the weight-based and concentration setups chained together with a minutes-to-hours conversion. If you can do the four basics cold, the "hard" questions are assembly, not new knowledge.
A 4-week plan that actually sticks
Weeks 1-2: ten questions a day, mixed topics, untimed. The goal is setup accuracy — write the equation before touching numbers. Review every worked solution, including questions you got right, to confirm you got them right for the right reason.
Week 3: keep the daily ten but add your personal error log. Every miss goes in with the reason: conversion slip, wrong formula, rounding, arithmetic. Most students discover 70% of their misses are one or two error types — usually conversions — which turns vague anxiety into a specific fix.
Week 4: switch to timed, exam-condition drills — 60 seconds per question, no hints. Speed exposes weak setups that unlimited time papers over. Finish with mixed mock sessions at 80%+ before test day.

The mistakes that actually cost points
Unit mismatches dominate: the order is in mg, the vial is in mcg, and the answer is off by exactly 1,000. Train yourself to write units into every step and cancel them like algebra — dimensional analysis exists precisely to make this error impossible.
The second cluster is direction errors: multiplying by 2.2 when converting pounds to kilograms instead of dividing, or multiplying by 60 when a rate is already per hour. If your answer feels absurd — a 12,000 mL/hr infusion, a 0.02-tablet dose — it is; sanity-check magnitudes before submitting.
